The Solo Handyman Story
Let me set the scene for you: the year is 2019, and I set out to start my handyman business. I came to this business with a lot of construction knowledge as a Journeyman Carpenter and a project manager, so I thought I knew what I was doing – I did not. Through years of running my business I went through a lot of ups and downs and made some significant mistakes along the way.
Probably my biggest mistake was trying to grow my business by hiring employees and taking on larger remodeling projects. I hired friends, convinced subtrades from my project management days to work with me and bought expensive software. With little to no systemization and a ‘hustle through it’ mindset, I crashed and burned. My little profitable solo handyman business that brought me so much joy turned into mess with 50K in debt, no money in my checking account, a half finished project, and a failed business.
After the dust settled, I knew things had to change. I got to work reviving my little handyman business. I focused on small projects only, systemized the hell out of every aspect and approached things from an analytical point of view. Fast forward to today and I have a great business that provides me with a high income, and contingencies just in case.
My mission is to equip you with expert knowledge and practical tools to help you find a community, achieve financial and operational efficiency in your handyman business, and build wealth, all without the burden of employees, subcontractors, or angry clients.
The goal of The Solo Handyman is to provide a wealth of resources including tips, and strategies tailored for solo handy-people. Let’s get your handyman business where it needs to be to support your family, reduce your stress, protect your health and make sure you don’t need to call your old boss and ask for your job back.
